A BUSY NOVEMBER AHEAD - DANCING IN BELFAST & CHERUBINI IN GALWAY
Hot on the heels of our season opening with Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble, I'm looking forward to a lovely November - jam packed with fabulous music!
I'm delighted to be conducting the Ulster Orchestra for the first time in a series of concerts for schoolchildren in music very close to my heart - dance music!!
Growing up playing Irish traditional music, I was fascinated by the rhythms and inflections of dance music from other cultures - in particular from Eastern Europe and South America. This developed into a slight obsession with the music of Bartok, Kodaly and Piazzolla - whose music I have been lucky enough to conduct. I'm so looking forward to bringing these worlds to the young people of Northern Ireland - alongside the fabulous players of the Ulster orchestra.
I'm also delighted to be returning to the world of choral music after a long detour into opera, conducting the St. Nicholas Singers in Galway. Thanks to their brilliant chorusmaster Mark Duley for this special invitation.
And November ends with yet more dancing in Belfast - this time to the hypnotic strains of Steve Reich's Double Sextet.
Hope to see you for a turn at one of these concerts! Can't wait!!
