A NEW WORKSHOP FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
A 45 minute fast paced, fun, interactive introduction to the fascinating world of conducting.
I am now scheduling in-person conducting workshops for December 2021 and January 2022.
Through movement, critical evaluation, listening and observation, this 45 minute desk-based workshop brings the Junior Certificate 'Ingredients of Music' to life in the context of Conducting.
During the workshop students learn:
what exactly a conductor does!
to critically evaluate two performances of a well known piece of classical music
how to conduct a well known piece of classical music using gesture to show dynamics, articulation, character etc.
how to communicate their own improvised musical ideas through gesture to a live violinist.
to create their own score for the piece.
The workshop is ideal for first and second year music students building skills towards creating their composition portfolios and writing the programme notes for the JCT Classroom Based Assessments.
Prior to the workshop, teachers are e-mailed an 18 page PDF workbook to be copied for each student, so they have a record of their learning during the session.
The workshop is also available as a PDF and video course suitable for delivery in the classroom, without the in-person workshop. It can be purchased from https://iverniaarts.com/product/discover-conducting-jct-music-lesson-pack/
