THE EXCITEMENT OF CONDUCTING NEW OPERA!
There is somethings so exciting about conducting new opera! In June I was delighted to conduct a mini tour of Greg Caffrey's children's opera The Chronic Identity Crisis of Pamplemousse for Northern Ireland Opera. It was such a joy to work with a fantastic cast of young singers, and a gifted production team to bring this opera to technicolour life!
Then at the start of this month, the colour spectrum darkened as we brought Raymond Deane's Vagabones on a mini tour of the East coast of Ireland, with a stop off in Youghal - the site of the 1691 witch trial on which the opera is based. Huge congratulations to Opera Collective Ireland for bringing this project to completion. It was a great pleasure to work with a fantastic cast of young singers, and the brilliant musicians of the Crash Ensemble, as well as dynamic directing duo of Ben Barnes and Libby Seward. Huge thanks to our fab production team - it was a joy!
Next up is an installation opera by Evangelia Rigaki for Irish National Opera. I'm music supervisor on This Hostel Life - not conducting on this occasion - so it will be so interesting to see/hear the opera unfold in the crypts of Christchurch Cathedral!
